Earlier this year we published this study looking at results of patellofemoral joint arthroplasty and establishing MDC thresholds. It can sometimes be difficult to determine how much improvement patients are getting from surgery. Questionnaires (patient reported outcome measures such as the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) form and the the Kujala Anterior Knee Pain Scale (AKPS)) help us determine how much of a difference we are actually making.
This study sought to establish minimal detectable change (MDC) thresholds for improvement to help us guide treatment protocols and give patients realistic expectations following patellofemoral joint arthroplasty.
